right round

Speaking to reporters later, Muhyiddin said the Government was close to making a decision on the language of instruction for Mathematics and Science.

“I will be briefing the Prime Minister soon.”

The Teaching of Mathematics and Science in English policy was introduced in stages, starting with Year One, Form One and Lower Six students, in 2003.
Any more group who wants to made public their disagreement?

Its been 6years since its implementation but last year I was shocked when a group of people claiming that this action is destroying the Malay language. In my eyes, i didnt see any destruction at all but i see bright future for all the students.

“While we are aware of the importance of mother tongue instruction in the early years of childhood education, we also need to address the future needs of our youth,” DPM said. Why this group never think of this??

DO tell me how your kids gonna pursue their studies in oversea if this kind of study plan does not exist? It helps a lot. For God sake please take others interest as well, Education is a fundamental issue, its not a mere political mileage.

The result ive seen in the realm of reality is that students in University failed to catch up with Science and Math because its so new to them, they studied the subjects in Malay and now in English, they cant take it.
I'm urging all people, please re-think and re-set ur mind on this, do u really need to stay and fight for Malay language? Try to fight for the future. If this uni. students fail because they never had the touch of English in their subject, do tell me will the students who study math n science in English now will survive?? Damn sure they will. This changes also will make the students think twice about their future.aite? Ive seen the important of the language and i know all u people also know the important and will work for the sake of future
adios..

  1. It is true that learning Science and Mathematics in English has its advantages, but we have to think outside of the box. We are talking about the education system in Malaysia so we have to take an approach that will benefit all Malaysians and not just to some group. Majority of Malaysians have poor command of English especially those who are living in Sabah, Sarawak and also in the rural areas. So language is really an important issue to them. The subject 'per se' is already hard for them and when it is added with English language,it becomes more troublesome for them to grasp the knowledge.

To some (like me), it is not that they are afraid that Malay language will be destroyed. It is just that they have a perspective that it is better for the said subjects to be taught in BM. It is understood by all and even the teachers will not have hard times in explaining the subjects to the students. It was never a barrier for our parents or older siblings to study abroad or even to enter universities and to be succesful in life so why make it an issue now. Like one of the ibnus said (I'm sorry my source isnt quite reliable) "bangunnya sesebuah umat adalah kerana menggunakan bahasanya sendiri".

The government introduced the system because they had a view that maybe it could help the future generations. But the trial years had shown that BM is a better medium of instruction. We cant really blame the government for constantly changing their policies because we are still a developing country. Yes, poor the students or shall i say, the 'guinea pigs', but they are called the guinea pigs for a reason. They are being experimented so that better education can be offered to the people. Changes are crucial for development and in the process, we learn from the mistakes that we make.

Rather than fighting or debating on Science and Mathematics be taught in English, why not fight on emphasizing on the English subject itself. I mean people are so ambitious in wanting this and that but they are forgetting the root of this very problem. So try to focus on the English language first and make it solid then only make other plans.

There is no right or wrong answer. This is just what I personally think :)

On a different note, I'm proud of you!

  2. i agree with ur point, but going back and reverting will only cause more chaos. Do we really need more chaos?? Thinkin outside the box will help u expand the outer side but will it help u in real situation. We've been discussing this issue since 2004, dun u think its the time for us the get a full stop....

For me the plan was good but i dunno whther the implementation will be there at the right time. As u said maryam, there is no right or wrong, but we need solution and we need it A.S.A.P. aite?? Education is a thing that need development. Staying put in the same designation will not ever improve. To be honest, as a law student i hate the same method of studying and examination.
I will concur to all new development of studyin which will generate or help the future.
